Jefferson never did that because he wanted to keep slaves in a slavery. Kościuszko was probably The greatest man of polish descent in the USA

Ironically, I had never heard of Kosciuszko before his statue was vandalized. I find American Revolutionary history fascinating, and I"m glad to learn about this hero!

As I watch this, the Kosciuszko statue in Washington stands vandalized. It shows the profound ignorance of what Kosciuszko stood for. Chopin was inspired by the fact his father fought for Kosciuszko.

The recent Brouhaha over a faux pas Polish Death Camps has caused a furor that is misguided and not properly understood for the false insult it is and the true motivation behind the Polish intent to punish people who suggest antisemitism is part of Poland's history. I used to drive by the statue to commemorate General Thaddeus Kosciuszko contribution to America's liberation from Britain but I fear for Poland today. The Times of Israel had this much better rejection of Holocaust denial by the Muslim Brotherhood affiliate n the USA. "A group of Muslim leaders from around the globe, including the President of the Islamic Society of North America, issued a joint statement condemning denial - or justification - of the Holocaust and rejecting anti-Semitism in any form. “We bear witness to the absolute horror and tragedy of the Holocaust where millions upon millions of human souls perished, more than half of whom were people of the Jewish faith,” said the missive, which was signed by 10 leading Islamic figures in Warsaw on Monday, AFP reported. “We acknowledge, as witnesses, that it is unacceptable to deny this historical reality and declare such denials or any justification of this tragedy as against the Islamic code of ethics.” They still stop short of suggesting the Nazis murder spree was motivated by their intention to murder ALL the Jews. It also stops short of suggesting that antisemtism was more widespread and a contributing factor even until today. In proportion, half of the Holocausts victims were Jews the majority not something to brag about but in terms of population it was more than half of all of Europes Jews. While one might suggest other people suffered from war and died in death camps for political and other discriminatory practices of the Nazis it was the Nazis single focus racism and bigotry heaped on the Jews that set it all in motion and contributed to the inclusion of other peoples in Holocaust. And the rebuttal headline from Polish news, "Jewish death camps"? Based on the known fact Kapos and death camp SLAVES served or died is cynical and antisemitic at best. If the Polish people think this is an apt response to the faux pas of "Polish death camps" they are more antisemitic than I had been lead to believe. "Me thinks my lady thou dost protest too much." I would add one more point. Islamists now want Europeans and Americans to believe that antisemitism is the same as Islamophobia. Their sudden shift from Holocaust denial to one that in some ways appears to be an endorsement of the fact the Holocaust did occur and Jews were murdered en masse is not the same as Islamophobia. Islamists are continuing their attempts to pass by Resolution in the UN and a Bill in The US Congress making criticism of sharia and Islam on the same par as antisemitism they are pushing the same agenda in Europe. It serves an agenda that is anti-pluralism, and anti democratic and secular institutions in the west. it is as much motivated by political chauvinistic views as anything religious. It would also inhibit criticism of the Islamic Revolution and one party Islamic States which do not always clearly define where criticism of Islam stops and criticism of the state begins. It is an attempt to undermine by false comparison the necessity of a Jewish Homeland. It is especially egregious that an affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood which is well documented for its genocide against non-Muslim peoples and while 200 million plus Christians face a day to day oppression and threat of Islamic sharia law throughout Caliphate states the Polish Government has lined up with them. No wonder the statue on the West Point plains faces West.

The narrator keeps mispronouncing Kościuszko's name! He says "Koss-choosko" instead of "Kosh-choosh-ko". Hard to believe the Polish embassy couldn't teach this man to pronounce it correctly or find someone who could.

As an Australian of part Polish descent I have yet to see an American documentary, movie, TV show or even a history book about the American Revolution even mention Kosciuszko. The same applies to the father of the American Cavalry, Casimir Pulaski. All I hear about here in Australia are Americans of all colours and creeds telling disgusting Polish jokes. There is no mention of the 1608 Jamestown Polish settlers or Sadowski (nee Sandusky) who established a the first trading post in Ohio, and whose grandsons were scouts for Daniel Boone as he settled Kentucky. No mention at all.

No one is better than Lynne Olson at telling the “big” story of historical events and giving that history life by including personalized, specific experiences that add to reader insights and engagement. The parallel today with innocent civilian victims fleeing ISIS-controlled areas is striking. A number of Poles fleeing the Nazis, especially Jews, were exiled at first to the Isle of Man until it was realized that no one was as dedicated to fighting the enemy than those who had been persecuted. Two Polish cryptographers who had stolen an Enigma machine and who had made progress cracking the German codes were so distrusted that they were never allowed to join the codebreakers at Bletchley and their talents were never employed during the war. Sadly, at the end of Olson’s story, those Poles who stood on ethical high ground or contributed the most to Britain’s security in the hour of its greatest peril were often abandoned at the end of the war. As Olson writes, Poles contributed much to the Battle of Britain, to code breaking, and to spying on the Third Reich. Churchill and Roosevelt stood aside as Stalin’s forces occupied Eastern Europe and many Poles who had sought refuge in “Last Hope Island” during the war met untimely death when they returned to Poland and resisted Communism as they had resisted Nazism.
